2010 May 19

Home insulation has never been so important as it is now. With environmental issues now being taken extremely seriously and the full extend of the damage that we have done to the earth it is now necessary to take some action. Although the scale of the problem is huge you may well feel helpless and that whatever you do will not really help. However this is simply not true; if we all make just some small changes then eventually we should see some positive effects on the environment. A large number of people making even the smallest of changes will add up to be something meaningful. This article looks as three ways that you can insult your home yourself without having to spend a lot of money:

Reduce Draughts That Get in to your Home

By using door draught excluders and letter box draught excluders you can cheaply and easily prevent cold draughts entering your home and the warm air within your home escaping. A door draught exluder is an easy to fit aftermarket accessories that is simple enough for most people  to install and in many cases won’t even require any tools.

Insulate you Loft/Attic
Insulating your loft or attic with a foot of insulation is again a great way of keeping your heat in and cold out. Many DIY home stores have fantastic offers on this stuff with many doing by one roll and get two free! You can easily recoup the cost over just couple of years due to the reduced cost of your energy bill. Depending on where you live you may well find that there are grants available from your government to reduce the cost of insulting your room.

Radiator Reflectors
A great deal of the heat that the radiators in your home pump out is immediately absorbed by the wall behind it. You can get silvered foam backers for your radiators that bounce the heat away from the wall and give you more useable heat from your radiators. These reflectors are incredibly easy to install and will make your home a much warmer place to be.

These three tips will help to make your home a much warmer place to be, reduce your energy bills and therefore reduce the impact that you have on the environment.
