Solar Powered Dog Kennel
With the spotlight very much on global warming and environmental issues in the world today, many people try to do their bit to keep the world in good condition. In recent years solar energy has become a much more important power source with many people having solar panels on their roofs to run all their electrical equipment. In some countries the electricity companies will even buy spare electricity from you if you have some that is unused. A relatively new phenomenon is the idea of a solar powered dog kennel.
There are several things that you need to consider before you embark on building your solar dog house. First, use a dog kennel guide to decide upon the type of dog kennel that you require. Then think about whether you live in an area where there is enough sunlight to convert into the power that you will require?
You can use the power to heat your kennel in the winter or cool it in the summer. A solar panel can be attached to a fan which will give a cooling breeze in the hot weather. Just ensure that the fan is pet safe as you wouldn’t want your dog’s tail to become caught in the mechanism. The panel can also be used to heat a dog bed in colder months.
If you don’t want the expense of a solar panel then you could install a solar heat collector in the roof. For this you will need a black, water filled container which is exposed to the sun. During the daytime the black colour will conduct the heat into the water, heating it up. At night you should cover the container so that the heat is directed down into the dog kennel, keeping it warm. If you are going to use any of these methods then it is vital that the dog kennel is well insulated as otherwise you will lose the benefit from the solar heating.
